What Our Landscape Architects Do

Translate your wishes into plans for construction. Sometimes client hopes and dreams are vague and abstract, and usually expressed in words.  It is our job to work with you and translate your ideas into a visual and technical package that could be constructed.

Design custom solutions and installations. Every site has a special history, every project has unusual conditions and every client has unique goals desires and requirements.  Our landscape architects seek design solutions that unite all of these and reflect your unique personality and lifestyle of living or working.

Prepare drawings and specifications. On most of our residential projects our designs only need to be brought to the conceptual level.  Once we have reached an understanding with the client on the concepts, aesthetics and materials, we can typically develop a budget estimate for the plans.  Oftentimes perspective sketches, photo imaging or cross-sections accompany these plans to help convey the design intent.  On larger more complex projects sometimes construction documents and specifications need to be developed.  Our work is done using both CAD software and the old-fashioned hand drafted method when necessary.

Helps you address code and regulatory issues. Both the town and state in which your project is located usually have regulations that govern such projects.  Since regulations vary from one town to another it is important for our landscape architects to be aware of these differences and how they may affect your project.  Our firm has an especially strong knowledge of the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services Comprehensive Shoreland Protection Act, which regulates construction activities with 250’ of most waterbodies.

Coordinate the work of consultants or sub-contractors. Frequently our projects require the work of specialty consultants for such things as surveying, wetlands delineation, septic design, drainage, utilities etc.  On the construction side, we often coordinate with specialty tradesmen for such things as, irrigation, custom carpentry, home automation/ security, tree care/ removals etc.

Administer the construction contract. Our team brings experienced and balanced perspective to the project during construction.  If you are taking advantage of our design/ build economies, your landscape architect and our construction supervisor, along with the project foreman, work together to ensure the project is constructed as designed.  For projects that require construction documents, or larger non-residential projects, our landscape architects can provide timely administration during the construction process analyzing and helping with decisions that may affect the design or budget.
